The Damage
Flight Deck #1- Limited Releases
I'm sure you've noticed that this isn't a traditional flight. Bootlegger's doesn't pour their limited releases in anything smaller than a half pint, so Mr. and I savored the larger than average pours. Also, I now realize that I misspelled Berliner Weisse quite significantly, so I apologize for that. We also drank from left to right, so... let's talk about that Psycho Kiwi!
Mr. was surprised by how refreshing Psycho Kiwi was and declared "I could drink a lot of this. Like, a lot." (intense eye contact) I had actually had Psycho Kiwi before we became Mr. and Mrs. Beer Flights, and this taste was just as great as the first. This brew is what I imagine happens when a beer and hard cider have a hot night together.
Berliner Weisse with Cranberry and Rhubarb had Mr. thinking he was drinking a delightful fruit juice and not a beer. I definitely enjoyed this rose brew and, at the time, I thought this was the most subtle amount of sour a beer could have a still be labeled as a sour.
I have to go first for this next review because Thai Tea is my absolute favorite from this flight deck. First of all, it smells like heaven. Second of all, it tastes like heaven! There is a huge vanilla cream flavor and the tea/beer combination slides on down to happy town. Mr. thought it was refreshing and had a good aftertaste... To each their own I suppose.
Mr. was feeling Poke the Bear with it's full, smooth flavor. I thought this one was the most beer like of the flight deck.
Berliner Weisse dethroned the BW with Cranberry and Rhubarb for the most subtle sour, but still qualifying as a sour beer! I swear this one ghosted my tongue when it came to sour, but we would both happily have another pint.

Flight Deck #2- We are back to drinking left to right! Also, this is a Mr. picked flight deck.
Mr. was effusive about this Lemon Grass White calling it an amazing beer with great flavor and smooth drinkability. I couldn't find any sort of tang to the flavor, so it's a dangerously drinkable brew.
Mountain Meadow had Mr. acting a little goofy, "Fruity. Tasting it, I could think about a mountain meadow. Aptly named." I gave Mr. some serious side eye while I had my share and tried to pin down the flavors. I think there might be a light citrus flavor with no aftertaste, so it's a clean drink.
Mr. had a good time with the Rocco Red Ale and found it to be an easy to drink red with a good aftertaste. I found this one to have more of a bitter flavor for my tastes.
Sir Michael Caine seriously impressed Mr. He found it to have a full, refreshing flavor and declared that he would be buying a lot of this brew. For me, I think I out tap out after half a pint of this one... I think I'll just stick to savoring the actor.

Flight Deck #3- Mrs. picked flight deck (coffee beer in the forecast!)
Mr. and I were both feeling classic vibes from Old World Hefeweizen. He found it to be a little sweet and I found it to be very drinkable.
Golden Chaos was wreaking havoc on Mr.'s taste buds, claiming it has a fruity taste with a bit of aftertaste spiciness. I was tasting all the fruits in this brew, so I am available whenever a pint of this is up for grabs.
Yassssssssssssss, to all the coffee and all the beer. Black Phoenix Stout has the added bonus of some chipotle peppers to make for an even more complex flavor, so I'm declaring this Kerr canning jar as my happy place. Mr. was surprised with how smooth of a drink this one is considering he really isn't a fan of coffee beers.
Fuzzy Black Ninja (or maybe it's Fuzzy Ninja Black... I was two flight decks in when I wrote those name tags...) is Mr.'s ideal dinner beer with plenty of opportunity to sip'n'savor. I found it to dark as the night with a clean, drinkable flavor.

Brews Cruise
Mr. went up to the bar with the intention of getting me a Thai Tea for my Brews Cruise and either Lemongrass or Kiwi for him. The sad news was that they ran out of Thai Tea and the loss of my choice made him forget his! Mr. (left) had Mic Check IPL and, while I found it to be a little extra for my tastes, he loved the smell and flavors. I (right) had yet another pint of Psycho Kiwi and, in my soberness, I wish I had put the correct name tag at the top of the pile... There's always next time! |
